Wokingham half-marathon 2025

Wokingham Half Marathon: In Short
Last year, I got a free entry to the Wokingham Half.
I misread the race instructions.
Turned up.
It was quiet.
Suspiciously quiet.
I was an hour late.
Drove back home and ran anyway.
Made myself a promise: this year, I start on time.

This year… I did.
Race kit:
Huckson shorts
Bracknell Forest Runners T-shirt
Nice combo.
But mistake.
It wrecked my nipples.
First World Problem.
Still hurts.
The organisation? Spot on.
No queues.
Marshals on point.
Bag drop was smooth.
Before. And after.

The race is walkable from the station.
Which is nice.
Especially since trains were actually running.
For once.
No “engineering works”.
Miracle.
The course?
Flat-ish.
Fast.
Windswept.
Once you’re out of Wokingham, it’s fields and small villages.
Some pubs.
Not much crowd support.
But nice views.
I started fast.
Very fast.
Very, very fast.
4:00/km for the first 13k.
Then 4:10/km for a bit.
Then 4:25/km for the rest.
Managed a heroic 4:08/km for the last 200m.
Felt like a sprint.
Looked like a limp.
In short…I wish a half marathon was 13km long.

📊 My Stats:
Distance: 21.1km
Pace: Started like Kipchoge. Finished like “please make it stop.”
Result: Satisfied-ish.
Lesson: Read the race pack. And Vaseline.
Would I do it again?
Absolutely.
It’s local, well-run, fast, and flat.
Just… next year, I’ll wear something nipple-safe.

On August 15, I will take part in a new challenge. An IronMan distance triathlon from Brutal Events. LOTS of elevation. What could possibly go wrong?

Blenheim Weekend Warriors

The Blenheim Palace Triathlon, widely regarded as UK’s most stunning triathlon, combines a world-class event experience, with beautiful scenery and a family day out. So stunning I’m registered to do as many triathlons as I can in 2 days.

BTS Club Champs 2023

A triathlon where I channelled my inner vintage enthusiast by racing on a bike that probably remembers when aero bars were still a wild sci-fi concept.

Marlow Classic 2021

This year’s Ironman 70.3 Weymouth was a far cry from the chaos of the previous year when the organisers cancelled the swim due to extreme weather conditions.

Challenge London Middle Distance

Have you ever encountered a book that left you both exhilarated and slightly frustrated? That’s the rollercoaster of emotions I experienced while reading the Wim Hof Method book. While I couldn’t deny the excitement I felt delving into the world of Wim Hof, finishing this relatively short book took me far longer than I initially anticipated.
